CNA Training
Are you thinking about becoming a certified nursing assistant in the New York state? Whether you live in New York City, or outside it, there are plenty of CNA training programs you can take advantage of. Once you complete one of these CNA training programs, you can take the state’s certification exam, which is administered and maintained by the Prometric Company.
If your CNA training facility is also a testing center, the administrator of your certification test will often be one of your instructors from CNA training. If you must take your test elsewhere, however, it will be up to you to call Prometric and set up a date to take your exam; this generally takes about two weeks to organize.
While there are several CNA training facilities available to you in this state, there are a few that stand out among the rest, including the following.
CNA Training Programs in New York
- Laguardia Community College- This community college in Long Island City offers a CNA training programs that is 135 hours long. 21 of the sessions you receive will be in the classroom, studying from written materials and lectures from your instructor, while 5 sessions will be conducted in the lab, where you will receive hands on training for the skills you will need. The total amount of hours you will receive for classroom and lab instruction will be 90 hours. An additional 40 hours is then provided to you in a clinical setting, where you will have a chance to practice your skills with patients in long term care facilities. Total tuition for this CNA training course is $960, but does not include supplies and textbooks.
- Hostos Community College- This college’s nursing assistant program is 140 hours long and consists of 44 sessions if you are attending CNA training at night and 26 sessions if you are attending during the day. Throughout this course, you will learn all the skills necessary for employment through classroom, lab, and clinical instruction. Tuition costs are $995 for this CNA training program.
- Finger Lakes Community College- If you are at least 16 years old, a high school graduate, or you have earned your GED, you may be eligible for this CNA training program. The class requires that you have proof of immunizations, are in good health, and are reading at a ninth grade reading level at least. Tuition for this course is $1,850, but includes textbooks, a set of scrubs, a name tag, written materials, and your state examination fee. If you cannot afford the tuition, however, you may be able to receive financial aid for this course. If you are also interested in earning a Home Health Aide certification, a dual certification course is also offered, with a tuition of $2,250.
